Hello.

New to the Forum, I've recently bough a GQ 4x4 with the ADP-054 and ADP-019 adapters.

My use is mainly reprogramming arcade board chips, in particular MVS cartridges (genuine and bootlegs).

One of my target is the MX29L3211 in TSOP 44. Of course it did not work as expected and I discovered that I'm not the only here to have issues with this chip / adapter. So I've wasted un unreasonable amount of time doing tests.

First I've tested all the snake oil presented here: https://www.mcumall.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=5230&SearchTerms=MX29L3211

Changing the caps, tuning the dummy load resistor, changing the write speed, changing / reflowing / testing everything basically. Nothing changed on my 5 new chips out of the tray except the lack of repeatability.

I can sometimes pass the whole erase / blanck checking / write / verify with buffer filled with repetitive value, repetitive patterns like 0xAA-0X55, 0x00-0xFF, counting patterns like 0x00, 0x01, 0x02 ... 0xFF, but NEVER with random data. It always fails very early in verify (far before address 0xFF) with data written on the whole chip having no sense (I mean nothing that could be explained by a floating pin for example).

Sometimes if I cancel the writing process very early data are OK in a short section of the chip but it cannot be repeated a second time.

So, I had two choices: buying another batch of chips or another programmer. I chose the second option and did an Arduino Mega programmer (https://github.com/maximaas/MegaBurner) with el cheapo second hand components and a mess of wires.

To my big surprise, it works perfectly, my 5 chips passes without any issue with the same random buffer not working with the GQ 4x4.

So my open question: is the MX29L3211 really supported by the GQ 4X4 with adapter ADP-019 ? If yes, there is probably an issue within the software part of the process (like a tight timing issue) as some chips not passing on the GQ 4x4 pass without issue on the cheapest possible programmer.

My opinion is that there is definitely something fishy with the support of the MX29L3211 by the GQ 4x4.
