hi everyone.

i'm trying to use an enhanced willem to program an AT89S2051. first thing, my software has no mode for this device so I am using AT89C2051 mode which could be a mistake. I have double checked the dip switch and jumpers, but when I try to ID the chip I get 0xFF 0xFF, and programming fails immediately (address=0x000000, chip=0xFF, buffer=0x3A). tried increasing the time sliders but got the same error.

I tried turning on the pins manually under the Test H/W tab, and there seems to be a weird interaction between Vcc and Vpp. Turning Vpp on shows 12V on pin 1 of the MCU, but turning Vcc on shows 4.3V on pin 1, as well as the expected 5V on pin 20. is this is expected behaviour? are there any more tests I could do that might help? thanks for the bandwidth, any advice would be much appreciated.

Hello,
What kinds of projects is the AT89S2051 good for?

thanks - you're quite correct. I got some AT89C2051s and the Willem works with them perfectly. I suppose I was guilty of thinking "it's just one letter, how much difference can it make" plus the S's are half the price and have twice the RAM.

Time to write some code now, thanks again!

AT89S2051 is not supported on Willem programmer's software.
