I try to read a "never used" 16F84A. It reads FF : ok
but it cant burn
green led ok when inserted red led ok when reading
i use an old desktop IBM PC on serial port (DB9) with no cable ; i have about 10V between pin 5 (MCLR) and pin 14 (Vdd) ; it should be enough (description indicates 8,2V as a minimum) using XP. Red led is on when i try to program
jumpers are on : 8-18 pin and internal VPP
abort at address 00000h with icprog 1.06B
should i use external 12V ?
Help appreciated So frustrating not able to try my program !!!

Use different software.
There are WinPIC800, IC-prog, PICpgm software available.
That because the JDM is a simple circuit programmer, the performance and stability is depending on the computer you used. Different software controls hardware in different way.
