Hi i just bought a jdm programmer im trying to program a pic18f2550 microchip

do i need to set the jumper's or do anything or
will it work by putting in straight into the socket

Looks OK.

Try followings:

1. Confrim your RS232 cable is working. and you RS232 port is not the USB-serial adapter.
2. Get another different type PIC chip and see if it works.
3. Confirm your chip is a good chip.
4. Try to program the chip via ICSP port connection. (5 wires connection)

but it doesnt detect the chip

JP2 pins 2-3 have jumpers
the ICSP has no jumper

is the pic faulty or the programmer

im trying to program Pic18f2550-I/sp
