I have the Willem Enhanced, 0.97ja software. I am having no luck programming a TMS2716. I set the led to the 2716 selection, and the voltage to the proper voltage. The DIP switches are set according to the picture. I have the "PCB3" showing on the screen. (Do I even have to change this to WILLEM?)
I do a BLANK CHECK.... shows the eprom as being blank...
I then click program chip and I get the following error...
"Error at 0x000000 Chip = 0xFF buffer = 0x50"

Is there a Document that lists these errors and what they mean?

When do I use the "WILLEM" vs "PCB3" setting...(Beside the chip ID in the list it says (PCB3)..I assume these chips need PCB3 and the others use WILLEM???)Now if I choose the "WILLEM" type, the dipswitch picture settings change with the numbers of the switches being reversed from the actual switches. Do I set them according to the diagram? or according to the numbered switch?

The Enhanced doesn ot work on 2732a EPROMs. See http://www.mcumall.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=16

Yes. you can do the modification on Vcc line. But there is no Enhanced willem chematic available. You can refer to the Dual power willem if you want: http://www.mcumall.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=100.

I have the enhanced Willem programmer and it does not read, verify or blank check 2732a EPROMS accurately. I tried adding the jumper from Pin 32 to in 28 and it helped in reading the eprom contents and performing the verify accurately. With this jumper in place it still will not blank check the eprom correctly. It indicates the eprom is not blank even though it is very much so and I have confirmed scanning the buffer.
My programmer is a USB powered board. Is there any way I can convert it to use an external power supply? I have many precision power supplies on my bench...

I need to reliably read and program 2732 eproms among others and have found the programmer to work well with the more modern part numbers. As the programmer is sold as working and the documentation clearly states it works with 2732 eproms I would very much like to see it working as advertised.

Let me know if anyone has a solution...

Thanks

Ron

Any Willem based programmer using a PNP transistor to switch VCC will likely have voltage drop problems when using NMOS EPROMs. Willem.org has a programmer that fixes that problem.

The TMS2716 is more closely related to the 2708 and it requires 3 supplies. Pinout is probably different too.

Your programmer need to be repaired.

My dual power programmer would never work with 2716 or 2732 chips as the chips would always fail the blank check (even with external power adapter connected) Also constant inconsistant checksum readings on M27C801 chips.

So the dual power Willem WILL burn 2732's with NO ISSUES? I need to know as my Enhanced will not burn 2732's and I'm pretty angy about it as I bought it being led to belive it would.

The Enhanced willem is not working good for NMOS chips, such as 2716,2732 ..etc. The Enhanced willem is mainly focused on 5V CMOS flash chips.

However, it should be working for most 27CXXX CMOS chips, such as 27C64,27C128,27C256,27C512. etc.

The main problem on Enhanced willem for NMOS chips is the current issue. The Enhanced willem may not provide enough working current to the target chip.

One way you can try to read the NMOS chip: short the ZIP pin 32 (VCC pin) to the chip vcc pin. Eg, for reading the 2716/2732, short the ZIF pin32 to pin 28. This will get some working current from ZIF pin 32. But this may not help the programming.

The Dual power willem programmer does not have those problems.
