I just purchased a GQ-3X and installed the software and driver on two computers:
1) Windows 8 64bit
2) Windows 8 32bit

The driver appears in Device Managers under "Universal Serial Bus Controllers"

I can't get around the error in the attached screen shot.

I tried two different W27C512s. I tried a M27C512. All three chips get the same error.
I'm running as administrator.
I'm using software version 6.21.
I placed the chip(s) as the documentation suggests (pin 14 of the chip farthest away from the ZIF lever)

I'm doing something stupid, but don't know what.

Possible reasons:

1. bad chips.
2. poor pin contact.
3. wrong pin 1 orientation on ZIF socket.
