Using 6.29 on Windows 8.1 GQ-4X

When I do a Blank Check on 27C256 Chip,or NO CHIP, I get:
Blank checking... Code
Elapsed time: 1.44 seconds.
Chip is blank

So obviously this software is not doing a "real" blank check if I get this message WITHOUT any chip in the programmer.

How do I get the software to READ and Blank correctly?

Okay. The software should check to see if a chip is in the programmer, but I can work with this limitation/oversight.

The software does "real" blank check. But the software does not check if the chip is locked on the ZIF socket.

When doing blank check, the software read the data and then check if its value is FF(Hex).

If you removed the chip, then all pins on the ZIF socket are pulling up to high level. The reading will be FF in hex and this is the blank byte.
