please post like this effort of mine
any details to help

so far i see people bleet on about how to disable the lpt port polling
by disabling the legacy plug and play tick box

this is TOTAL rubbish!!!!

you only need to do this if you dont choose 'enabled' or 'yes'
to the is o/s plug and play enabled choice in most bios "somehwhere there"

then some people still have problems
if you also use printers on the same port
h**p://www.forums.techarena.in/tips-tweaks/1121881.htm
this is the reason for that

simple disable the printer port spoller service in windows

most drivers for printers just use there own and its not arbitory to the port just port activated

however windows spoller runs all the time ....

better disable this service to use programmers that are time domain sensative where lpt is being also hogged and checked by services
other than plug and play...

as i said if you enable plug and play o/s setting
there is no need to disable detection as this is done once when you boot
and once when you plug something in{terminate stay resident}as part of plug and play drivers..... if you use non plug and play settings
your machine will use physical drivers and not virtual sockets
& WDM windows driver models ...

given the added spooler service a latched physical driver
will be at a major priority disadvantage

so remove the spoller no matter what

then set the bios the right way and reboot twice... before tests

coincidently the microsoft default fax and file drivers both reuse the spoller service till its disabled and they are then free to use for 'other things'

i just delete all drivers and disable the service's use plug and play enabled ..in bios... setting

if you install windows without it set the plug and play detection'legacy' is unticked by default when you look at the device manager lpt drivers ..

if you enable plug and play o/s
and install windows say xp its then enabled{ticked} by default
ie windows picked up the bios plug and play ' virtual sockets 'address ranges
and sets up the drivers... for you

this can be done by as i said enable it in the bios
boot up then reboot

simple!!!!

in xp / win NT/2000 etc click start and run

'NET STOP SPOOLER'
you can also use this command or
NET START SPOOLER too restart it
you can set the 'print spoller' service in xp to manual

right click my computer choose manage
enter services and change the print spoller to manual
then you can start and stop it as needed ie if you have a big printer job of 10 or more pages etc ... start it
if not why have it using time and memory
and not at bills whim...

and dont forget to enable apic v2 tables with later than p3 machines.... or youll have no virtual addressing and this will slow a machine by 25%
