Hello,

I picked up a GQ-4x4 to reprogram a MX27C1000PC-15 BIOS after a bad flash. Image was backed up from the chip itself before the bad flash.

Datasheet: https://www.alldatasheet.com/datasheet-pdf/pdf/74476/MCNIX/MX27C1000PC-15.html

It reads ok (all 0x00 from the 'bad erase'). Trying to write all 0x00, it works, VPP flashes, and verifies ok.

Writing... Buffer
Elapsed time: 31.91 seconds.
Device write completed OK
ID check skipped
Verifying... Buffer
Device is verified
Elapsed time: 16.18 seconds.

I tried to write all 0xFF, goes through progress bar fully (and much quicker, no VPP lights) then fails on verify:

Writing... Buffer
Elapsed time: 4.91 seconds.
Device write completed OK
ID check skipped
Verifying... Buffer
Verify Failed, Address=0x000000, Device=0x00, Buffer=0xFF
Verify Failed
Elapsed time: 1.51 seconds.

Tried writing the binary image and get (immediately):

Write failed, Address=0x000000, Buffer=0x25 Device=0x00

I'm not sure what to do here. Have tried multiple cables, USB ports, and a power adapter to no avail. Have tried it on speed -2 which does the same thing (although much slower). Google isn't being much help.

edit: Read the data sheet carefully, I believe my chip is a one time programmable chip. So I think I need a new one. Unless I'm wrong and someone can comment that, I'll leave this post here for anyone else that comes across this same issue.

You are right, it's an OTP device, can't be erased or reprogrammed.

Replaced it with a SST39SF010A flash eeprom. Programmed the image, popped it in the board, and it worked.

Thanks anyways :) this thing is handy!
