1.The USB PIC programmer uses virtual comport to communicate.
So, the very first step is to confirm the USB driver is install and loaded correctly. The USB driver is: http://www.mcumall.com/download/PL2303_XP2KME98Driver_Setup.exe

This picture shows the USB driver is loaded and the COM3 serial port is assigned to the programmer.

2.Assign the comport number to the software.
When first time and start the software, the software will show the "RESET Error". Just ignore the error. Open the software and lick on File->Port->Enter port value:
Enter the port number you computer assigned to you. And then click OK.

Close and open the software again. Now you can start to work on your chip. If the reset problem exist, try to ignore it and see if it works. And check the comport setting again see if the value correct.

Each chip has different position on the ZIF socket. So, always check if the chip is place in the correct position in ZIF. The position showed in the software once the chip type been selected.
