| I am unable to read, or write to an SST49LF160C BIOS chip with my GQ-4X. I'm using the FWH/LPC+ adapter as specified, but it can't even ID the device. I don't have any trouble with smaller chips from the same series like the SST49LF080. I know the BIOS chip is good because it works in the PC. |

check pin contacting between chip and adapter, adapter and the programmer.

I don't think it's poor pin contact because I'm not having any trouble with smaller chips. The ID I get is F0FF, and attempting to read it produces all FF.
I checked the datasheets, and on the 49LF080 (which works) pins 32 and 25 are for Vdd. On the 49LF160, only pin 25 is listed as Vdd (pin 32 is NC). The programmer is only applying Vdd to pin 32. I can't tell for sure unless I pull the socket from the adapter, but pin 32 appears to be unconnected. Was the adapter revised at some point, or could I have a bad adapter? I'll try connecting Vdd to pin 25 and post back. My adapter is version 2.1. |

| Adding the Vdd jumper didn't help. From the datasheets, I see that the 49LF080 supports LPC mode and parallel programming mode, but the 49LF160 only supports LPC mode. Does anyone know if this programmer supports LPC mode, or does it use parallel mode only? I would assume it supports LPC mode since the 49LF160 is listed as a supported device in the software. |

Are you sure about that? I am able to read a 49LF080 with it set to 49LF160, so I don't think it's the adapter, or programmer (both chips have the same pinout). I've tried 3 49LF160's and they all do the same thing at any speed. A quick probe of the pins during a read operation shows signals on pins that are only used in parallel mode. I think the software has an error in its implementation for the 49LF160. Is there a way to report bugs? |

| I checked the LPC/parallel mode select pin, and it's being held high, so that proves this programmer is running in parallel mode, which the 49LF160 doesn't support. Is there any hope of fixing this? |
