So...I just got my Enhanced Willem today, and studied some of the available directions, but could not manage to burn my .bin file onto my AT29c256 chip.
I'm completely new, so please excuse any ignorance in my questions.
1st, when I select the 29c from the menu, it comes up with a pop-up window stating "PCB3/A/B setting jumoer" ....am I supposed to adjust something here, because I really have no clue.
Also, I know I have to select the at29c on the burner itsel, using the button. Now, the burner would flip through the different LEDs (for both voltage and chip type) but no longer does, which leads me to believe there may be something wrong with the burner(???).
The directions (or lack there-of) is not so newbie-friendly.
A step by step for this particular chip would be great if someone were to provide it :) |

I managed to get one chip burned after around 4 hours of friggin' with the thing.
You have to mess with the cords a lot to get the burner to switch from the normal settings to the AT29 setting....it took forever. Are all of these burners that annoying??? |

| Read your post about at29c256 chip and I am having same problem, I have never done this before. What pins do I need to jumper They are not marked on dip socket. Any help with instructions would be helpful. |

The Enhaced willem is based on PCB3B revision PCB, you do not need short any pin on the ZIF.
Also, there are only two settings are needed:
1. Select AT29 chip type LED, it located on second right top LED.
2. Set the DIP switch same as the DIP setting in the software.
PLease turn off all the higher priority software such as Anti-virus, CD burner and other hardware monitor software. The AT29C256 need write each byte data within 150us time frame. If it stops in the halfway writting, you may need to exit the software and restart the software again. That will make difference.
The AT29C256 does not need a erase before writing data to it. You data will be overwrite the old data. Do not try to erase it. If you want erase the chip. Clear and fill up the buffer with all 0xff value and write to the chip. |

The problem I am having (after burning my 1st and only chip successfully over 2 months ago) is that the Programmer will not change to the various "special chip" functions when pushing the small button at the top of the programmer. (Nor will the voltage settings change, but I know that's not needed for the AT29C chip)
I have been messing with this thing for another hour or more and after resetting the computer, plugging/unplugging the Programmer USB and serial cables, the programmer only switched settings once. I had the light lit on the "AT29" setting, but when I put the chip in, the light reset to the "normal" position (on the far left) and has not moved since. I can't count the number of times I have pushed that button.
This is only the second time I've tried to use this thing and I'm about ready to throw it out or re-sell it.
Any insight? |

This is not related to you computer.
It seems the button has the contacting problem. If you long time never use the programmer and it been stoered in a not dry place. Then the button may have contacting proble,.
To confirm this, short the pin of the button once use a wire, see if the led moves. If so, you need clean it use a Contact Cleaner.

Well, I seem to have a solution to my problem.
If I remove the small jumper between the reset button and the voltage selection button, the burner works perfectly. I simply press the chip selection button and the light will change positions. The buttons work perfectly, as the item is stored in it's box in a cool, dry location, with a silica gel package inside the box.
I have managed to burn several chips on several different occassions using this method....and it takes mere minutes as apposed to hours.

| Ahh, it works as design. That jumper is the safety jumper. The voltage and the Chip selection only can be changed without the jumper. |
