I am unable to perform a successfully write to the following eproms:
27C512, 27C010, 27C040. I have attempted twice on each eproms specified and ALL failed as mentioned below:
Error message displayed or similar
"Write Failed, Address=0x004000, Buffer=0x00 Device=0x40"
1. GQ-4X Programmer - I have also connected a Plugpack 9VDC rated at 350mA.
2. H/W test = OK
2. Load Binary file, left settings Normal, Normal, 0000.
3. Load Device ID.
3. Perform Blank check = OK.
4. Select "Write", then soon fails with message above or similar.
Unable to successfully write to an eprom since receiving the programmer to date.
Please help. I would appreciated attention to this issues. Please advise.

| If all chips failed on same address 0x4000, then it must be something wrong with address A14. Check ZIF socket pin 33. It is A14 pin. |

I have checked ZIP socket pin 33. All seems fine.
I proceeded to attempt to write an eprom 27C512 and the now the following message is displayed.
"write failed address 0x000000 buffer 0x00 device 0x40"
Unable to write.
Can you please advise. I have just bought this programmer, why doesn't it work straight out of the box?
What kind of Quality Control do you have for these devices.
Please help.

I have diagnosed why I was unable to write to the following EPROMS 27C512, 27C1001 and 27C040 successfully. After opening the programmer and disconnecting the ZIF adaptor from the main board, I conducted a continuity test on the ZIF adaptor on all 40 pins. It appears that the ZIF adaptor had 3 pins with no continuity (i.e. PIN 16, PIN 24 and PIN 25 were open circuit). This problem caused "ID" check failures for the selected EPROMS mentioned above, thus also causing "Write" problems.
THE FIX: I proceeded to solder a wire connecting PIN 16 on the ZIF socket to the corresponding PIN 16 on printed circuit board. I repeated this process for PIN 24 and PIN 25. Once complete, I checked that all 40 pins had continuity.
Finally, I was then able "ID" the EPROMS and "Write" to 27c512, 27c1001 and 27c040 successfully.
I believe that the ZIF adaptor is a potential problem and should be checked for quality purposes to ensure that these issues do not occur in future production runs.

Hello, I can read TMS27C512, but I can not write,
is ti a software problem? sw is 6.30.
Please help mebest regards

The software has no problem and it has been used for years.
Make sure your chip is good and blank before it write. |

I'm having this exact same problem. Only with 27C512 EPROMs. I'm able to read them but not write them. I have tried 6 different 27c512 chips AMD, Intel, ST, Toshiba.. etc.
All of my chips are blank and pass the blank check.
I thought I may be experiencing the same problem as user edom so I opened my GQ-4X and sure enough, there was no connectivity on pin 15. I soldered a jumper wire from the ZIF socket to restore the continuity but I'm still unable to write 27c512.

I think there are still some other pin not conecting good.
