It is a new generation programmer: GQ-5X

The GQ-5X is a new generation of GQ series programmers.

The GQ-5X uses USB 2.0 as communication interface. So, it is much faster than previous models.

GQ-5X is not a single programmer, actually it is a series programmers. It includes GQ-5X NAND programmer, GQ-5X SPI programmer, GQ-5X universal programmer(48 pin) and more. The GQ-5X case is designed to be easily opened by bare hand, by changing the top module, the GQ-5X can be transformed to a professional level specific programmer. The objective is: try to achieve professional performance with affordable pricing, also provide flexibility to customers based on their application.

For example, if I want to program NAND flash at this moment, I only need to purchase PRG-120, so I do not need to purchase a $1000+ programmer which program many thing I do not need. Later on if I want to program high speed SPI, I only need to purchase a SPI top module.

The GQ-5X is much flexible than others. It uses newer concept to design. Each GQ-5X consist of two modules/parts. By change one of modules, it can be easily converted to a different application specific professional level programmer. Such as Hi-Speed NAND programer, Hi-Speed SPI programmer, General Universal programmer, Standard Xilinx JTAG Download Cable and more.....

The GQ-5X software GQ-Blaster is designed to support Windows, Linux and Mac OS.

It will.
The new concept used on GQ-5X allows software to supports any chips by changing the top part. The top part can be easily changed in seconds.

Proposed supporting list:

TMS370CX6X

TMS370CX5X

TMS370CX4X

TMS370CX3X

TMS370CX0X

TMS375C006

TMS374C003A

TMS374C013A

MC68HC05V12

Please add your chips you needed here.

GQ-5x consist of a set of programmer sub-models: GQ-5X NAND, GQ-5X SPI, GQ-5X Universal, GQ-5X JTAG etc.

All sub-models shares base module, and it has specific top module. So, they have different price. Beside the universal model, all others should be device specific. And they are expected to have professional level performance.

Please provide the detail about the chip.
We might need to update the configuration or possible new release for some chip that is not tested yet.

Make sure it is 8 bit wide. 16 bit is not supported yet.
But it will be supported in the future software update.

This is Nor flash. So far 5X supports Nand and SPI flash. In the future Nor flash will be supported.

Hello, I wish to buy GQ.5X NAND.

I need to use it to recover firmwares when they go bad on a multimedia device.

Does GQ-5X NAND support these Samsung NAND device?

- K9F4G08U0E
- K9F2G08U0C

I need to perform full dumps from fully working devices, and then I need to overwrite devices when they come back to service due to corrupted firmware's issue to fully restore them.

Is it possible to do it using GQ-5X NAND, please?

Based on datasheet, there is no issue supporting these chips. I have added them in the definition file.

I'm new in this field, I have never programmed anything yet and I'm considering this programmer because it supports a Toshiba TC58NVGxxxx nand flash, which I'm planning to program.
What I would like to find out, if this programmer can program all the regular EEPROMS as well, like the 24C, 25C series and the like?
When it will be available, by the way?

Thank you,

Tibor

Anybody can help?
I'm trying to understand these two programmers how they can be used, it's a bit confusing.
Let's say, if I would buy the SPI version, can I transform it into a nand flash programmer, by replacing the adapter on top of it?

TC58NVGxxxx is NAND flash. You need GQ-5X NAND.

The 24XX, 25XXX are the EERPOM. You may need to get GQ-4X for those EEPROM chips. The GQ-5X SPI only for 25XXX EPROMs.

Yes. If you have GQ-5X SPI, you can transform it into GQ-5X NAND. They have same base board. You just need to buy a NAND Flahs module.

Why the GQ-5X is limited only, for 25xxx EEPROMS?
It shouldn't be able, to do all that the GQ-4X can do and in addition can do the 25xxx?
Do you know when the GQ-5X universal will come out? What will it's capabilities will be? SPI and Nand combined?

GQ-5X will not combine hi-speed SPI with hi-speed NAND. Those are two modules. There will be a GQ-5X Universal.

What is your definition? How do you define is not working?
Can you read properly or erase properly?
This flash is quite small in size and should not have any issue.

I have not tested this chip myself. However you should first program all ffs and see if you can get the chip erased. If not your chip should have bad blocks.

When you get the compare data failed message, it is because the binary file doesn't match the binary data on the IC. If you scroll down to the target address, you will see that it is different from that point. Extracted memory from a working TV could possibly be a different firmware version. I'd say you either have a different firmware version, or the data on one IC is corrupted. Back up the binary from the IC, then flash the binary from the working TV, then use verify to compare. My 5X came a couple days ago and it's been great.

These are probably bad bits from the output nand device. ECC will correct some of them otherwise they will be marked as a bad block.

Problems with the programmer/software would result in consecutive errors.
