I have tried many style pics and was not able to program any of them but one
PIC16F627 PROGRAMED NO PROBLEM
PIC16F84A WAS NOT ABLE TO PROGRAM
PIC16F870 WAS NOT ABLE TO PROGRAM
PIC16F676 WAS NOT ABLE TO PROGRAM

These are all MPU's that Top supposedly supports. I have had nothing but a pain with this programmer I would not recommend it to anyone.
I wasted $125.00 with shipping on this programmer and then had to buy another programmer that works Superpro-z at $249.00 new I plugged the Superpro-z in and had zero problems writing code to any of these MPU's.
I would warn to not waist your money on this unit it does not work.
Thank you,
Leo

I program PIC 16f877a everyday with no problems.

One thing I noticed is that the config fuses have to be set manually in the w/r screen, as they don't pick them up from the Microcode IDE .asm files. I also use PICC and have the same little glitch.

Perhaps that is your problem?
