Hi All
As a total newbie to the world of programming bios chips, I hope some of you can give me the benefit of you experience.

I have a true USB Willem programmer and a PLC32 adapter (FWH/LPC+ Adapter V2.0) for a SST49LF0004A chip.

I am trying to copy a good chip onto a blank chip.

I can ID the chip, read the chip, write to a new blank chip and verify that the written data is correct.

However, when I put the chip in the mother board, it does not boot.
Original chip still works fine!

All advice appreciated.
Thanks
Paul

Did you verify the chip after tested on the PC? This will make sure the chip is not altered during the booting.

Also, check the checksum after you opened the BIOS file and verify the chip.

Does the new chip ID and chip speed are and exactly same as the working one?

G'day All

Still no joy!
I have programmed multiple times with double write enabled.
Programming, verifying and checksum all match - no errors.
Still will not work in the pc.

I have also downloaded the BIOS file from the Tyan website (Tyan S2865) and tried writing that to the chip. Still will not boot pc.
I have also erased and done a blank check before rewriting the BIOS.

This cannot be so difficult!!

Really weird!!

I do not think the 12V power will help since it can be verified.

you can try to verify the new chip again after boot failed on the mother board. This to avoid mother board change the data in new chip when booting.

Also, try to program the new chip more than once without erase. This may help to reduce the marginal write in the new chip. OR check the Double Write check box.

Hi ZLM
Thanks for the reply.
Still no joy - yes the checksums do match exactly
Chip orientation is correct - I have tried 3 different blank chips (I got 30 of them!)

Procedure:
New chip
1. Check ID
2.Erase
3.Verify blank

Fit original chip, ID and read.

Fit blank chip and write & verify.

Still refuses to boot pc.
Original chip boots first time every time!

Tonight I tried with a 12V power supply as well, just incase the usb did not give enough power.

Any help greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Paul

Check the new BIOS chip if it contacts well with mother board socket. The orintation.

Also, always save a copy of data from the original BIOS, and write down the checksum.

Read the new chip and makesure the check sum is same as the original data.
