Just got a USBICD2.5 and have the following message:
Connecting to MPLAB ICD 2
...Connected
Setting Vdd source to MPLAB ICD 2
ICDWarn0020: Invalid target device id (expected=0x90, read=0x0)
...Reading ICD Product ID
Running ICD Self Test
...Passed
MPLAB ICD 2 ready for next operation

What does this mean?
(using zif socket with correct jumpers and PIC18F4550)
other functions do not work as I expect them to.

Somewhere mus be a connection/contacting problem. Check the cable, adapter ZIF contacting.

Hi,
as stated the jumper is correct
(I am new to the USBIDC2.5 but have 40 years designing hardware)

check the jumper setting on ZIF adapter

The chip is in the zif socket, but does not seem to get any power

The ICD2.5 does not detect the PIC18F4550.

It seems you did not place the chip on the ZIF socket.
