Posted - 11/16/2009 : 17:43:17 USB power on dual power programmers is ONLY ment for field programming from a usb supply so programming eproms at 12v vpp and more over 6.250v vcc from 5v usb isnt impossible but will mostly not work becouse of insufficient current or voltage /current sag from the usb port on a laptop in the field
so to program most chips that use other than vcc and vpp =5v forget usb or stay in the car and use the tabs/fag lighter for 13.8v {12v engine off} power to the main socket not usb {its useless to me i need this programmer indoors and for eproms {old ones }
use 12v vcc supply from a regulated wall wart i use 15volts to be sure ... of vpp of older eprom s
BEFORE you make a mistake DONT PLUG THE CHIP IN YET!!!!!
make sure of the programmer your port setting your drivers your o/s bascicaly the 'coms'
then simply use the programmers front end apps test tools page and a datasheet if needed for the chip your intending to flash
and MOST important a 3 digit LCD multimeter!!!
you can set your programmer up and check all the pins on its blank programming socket first!!!!
from the apps test programmer test page tick box regime
its NOT!! there for any other reason than using it FIRST pre chip programmer insertion no matter how many times you 'scan' the jumpers and dil sw blocks
before you screw up a chip or moan online !!!
so do it in programming mode and read / varify mode also blank check mode all the tick boxes are plain to see
and lets face it
MR spock and also MR data would both turn in there grave if you dont at least 'run a diagnostic' test 'this part works' before you post for help
be logical precisely that is a fact...
and dont waist your chips {soldiers} in persute of glory

then boot from it if you cant boot from sdcard or usb sdcard then use win 98 on another small ide drive
win98 works best with no distractions and a fat 32 partition youll need to copy all images to it first as win98 cant 'see' easily ntfs without a patch
keep it to usb sdcard if you can boot it its fast enough and works fine
i use a bi-directional 25pin to 25pin dtype cable for lpt to programmer
