When I try to install the driver on my machine I get an error that says:

For WIN98, WinME, Win2000 and WinXP only

Is there something I need to do?

you should reinstall the driver.

The problem maybe a compatibility issue. If you want you can send the programmer back for exchange.

Well, I've tried the programmer with another WinXP machine and I'm having problems getting it installed on that machine also. It works fine on my old machine but the whole point behind getting a new system was to replace that one.

Any ideas?

I don't think it has anything to do with the programmer. I just don't think that my system is going to let it work easily. I unfortunately don't have much time to mess with it as I am usually out of town during the week and when I am home on weekends I try to spend time with my wife.

I know the programmer works fine with XP, so I'm sure there is nothing wrong with the programmer.

You can buy a new one. But I just do not know if it is programmer related.

I tried to clean out the registry and reinstall and it still isn't working. I'm beginning to wonder if I just need to buy a new programmer. Kind of irritating, I don't want to spend a lot of money on a programmer and if I buy a new one, then it may not work with windows 7 either.

RTM is Release to Manufacturer version. The system is a Dell. I'll see if I can't clean old drivers from the registry or show hidden devices in the device manager and remove any that way. Thanks. I'll let you know if it works.

You may need clean up the registry and reinstall the driver.

This driver is confirmed work with Windows 7. But do not know what is the RTM version.

I tried the programmer on my windows xp computer this weekend. It worked without a problem. So the problem has something to do with the compatibility of the driver with my Windows 7 version. My win 7 version is RTM 7600 which is supposed to work with the driver, but I can't get it to work yet.

Can you try on any other computer? That will check if the programmer is in good condition. If it does not work on any other computer or windows, then you may need to return the item.

I just tried the latest driver at:

h**p://www.prolific.com.tw/Eng/downloads.asp?ID=31

and it doesn't work either.

The programmer worked fine on my windows xp machine. The driver apparently isn't loading correctly. It always tells me that it did not install correctly on my Win 7 machine.

Someone on another forum told me that the prolific driver has an issue with Windows 7 RTM version, which mine would be since it is on a Dell system. Have you heard of any issues with that?
dkustom Posted - 02/09/2010 : 11:56:57
I will try the programmer on my old computer tonight. I haven't sold it yet because I wanted to make sure I could get this programmer to work on my new system. I'm sure it has something to do with the windows 7 configuration somehow, I'm just not sure how yet.

I feel confident the programmer will work fine, but I'll try it on the other system tonight.

I think there are someting wrong with windows configuration.

Did you try on another computer? That will confirm the programmer is working or not.
dkustom Posted - 02/09/2010 : 02:51:13
Well I've found an installed the software but I can't get it to recognize the device on the port. There is some sort of conflict.

It says:

This device is not configured correctly. (Code 1)

The name is already in use as either a service name or a service display name.

I've tried following the order of driver installation I've seen for the PL2303Vista.exe drivers in other posts on this forum but I still haven't had any luck. I believe I have everything in place that I need to start programming my ICs with the exception of a properly installed driver.

Do you have any other ideas?

Thanks for your help.

I tried that driver and it shows up in device manager, but it has the exclamation point next to it and I don't have the interface that I was used to using with the device. Does that install with the driver or separately? I really can't remember. It's been quite some time since I had to install it.
dkustom Posted - 02/08/2010 : 03:51:10
I haven't tried that one. I'll try it when I get home from work this evening and let you know. Thanks.
