So I need a very basic programmer.

Requirements are
- USB / Serial / Parallel Port
- DIP32 and DIP28
- program eproms (27xxx,28xxx,29xxx)

I was thinking about the Top2004 or 2007. I also saw the
EasyPro 90B but all of these seem to be overkill. Is there anything cheaper?

Also, this is a very noob question, but if a universal programmer has a 40 pin Zif does that mean it can program any eprom up to 40 pins? Or only certain sizes, like 28, 32, and 40 (for example).

If you are looking for basic universal programmer, the Dual Power Willem will be good.
see:

All eprom chips has tsandard pin count, eg. 24,28,32,40 pins. There are no 29pin EPROM chip. So, the 40 pin universal programmer will handle most of standard EPROM.
