I would like some advice please on which of the MCUMall programmers you would advise to read/program an ST M28F102 PLCC44 Flash eprom?

I have already purchased a TOPWIN2004 of eBay and although this chip is listed as a supported device I have been unsuccessful. Even after realising that the included DIP40-PLCC44 adaptor was wired for PIC and not eprom (Vss / NC pins swapped) Topwin3.5 software just states 'no chip in place'.

Looking at the programmers listed both the True-USB Willem programmers GQ-3X and GQ-4X appear to support this flash eprom. However I am not sure which of the adaptors I would need as the device device list gives:

ADP-054, ADP-055 16 BIT EPROM ADAPTER

but would this not work also:

ADP-017 AT PLCC44-DIP40 adapter.

Also, is there any difference other than cosmetic between the GQ3X and GQ4X programmers? I see the GQ3X has 32 pin ZIF socket - how can this read a PLCC44 (effective pin count 39)?

I just don't want to waste more money on another programmer that does not work.

Thanks.

Both GQ-3X and GQ-4X support 28F102 with ADP-054 or ADP-055.

This chip is confirmed and verified on GQ-3X and GQ-4X.

The GQ-4X is a improved version of GQ-3X. It supports more chips than GQ-3X and it is easier to use.

The adapter ADP-054 and ADP-055 has on board circuit to do all the conversion between PLCC44 pin to DIP 32 pin.

The programmer comes warranty so that you can return it for refund if it does not work for you.

Thanks for quick reply ZLM. With a warrantly like that I'll order a GQ-4X then.

One thing though - would the ADP-017 AT PLCC44-DIP40 adapter not work for this flash eprom once the jumpers are set to swap pins 12/13 and 34/35 (I think it shows only eprom 27 series on the picture but I assume they share the same pinout as 28 series eprom)?

Also, any thoughts on the possibility of in-circuit reprogramming this chip with the GQ-4X?

Yes. ADP-017 works on 28F102.

This chip can not be programmed in circuit.

Why can't it be programmed in circuit? surely you could clip the adapter on upside down to program it?

did you have any success using the GQ-4X (not v4) to write to M28F102 chip? I am trying to do the same but write process always stalls at 19%
