I am having problems using/programming this device. It blank checks fine, but will not program. The dip switch settings are changed according to the software. I have programmed 27C4002 and AM27C4096 in this same setup in the past. My programmer is a GQ-2X Re-1.00, I have the MCUmall 16bit eprom adapter that has a ZIF socket for 40 pin eproms and a socket for 42 pin eproms, and the software is Re. 2.07. (It was Re.1.10., so I reinstalled with the latest software.)

After Blank checking I load the file that I want to program and select the Write command. The VCC and VPP lights come on, and go off quickly as the following error message comes up:

DEVICE WRITE FAILED AT ADDRESS:
0x000000, BUFFER=0x00, DEVICE=0xFF

I just bought a bunch of these eproms, and I would appreciate any advice on how to make these work with my setup. Thanks in advance!

It is not the problem from algorithm. The problem I think should from the devices.txt file.

Due to the different production batch of the EPROMS. The characteristic of the EPROM may not be exactly same. So, some parameters may be adjusted from devices.txt.

You can just copy over the device definition line from 27C4002 to your own 27C4096. So that works for your chips.

Hey guys, i just registered to post my experiences with the gq-4x + adp-054 and programming hn27c4096.

I have never managed to program them but the 27c4002 has been working great. So I thought, what if i change the device in the software from 27c4096 to 27c4002. And presto, every 27c4096 chip i had that couldnt be programmed just a moment ago worked every time with the 27c4002 device setting.

Maybe theres an error in the writing algorithm?

Best regards
Fredric

There is a J5 jumper on adapter, V1/V2. switch this jumper and see if it makes difference.

Has anyone found a solution for writing eprom HN27C4096AG-10 with adapter ADP-054?
I've tried different voltages Vpp12.7 Vcc6.2, and at different speeds, but without success. The documentation for the eprom Vpp is 12.5 +-0.3V, VCC 6, 25 + -0.25 and 12.0 + OE-0.5V. The only thing I suspect is the OE pin where the voltage around 4V (measured with a multimeter). Thanks for your reply

Make sure your chip is a good chip.

I have a GQ-3X Re-1.50 and 16bit EPROM adapter v3 and I have exactly the same problem.

some solution? I'm desperate

I have sent an email to the support@mcumall.com email address regarding sending a package to you. Thanks in advance for your great support!!

I did try many different voltage settings including the 12V WVPP, so I am not sure what is going on either. I do not think that 12.5 vs 12.7 Volts should make a difference. I guess that I will need to send you a few pieces to play with. Can you give me the details here or via email as to where to send them to you. I am hoping that there is nothing wrong with my programmer or adapter, and that it is a software setting as you suggested it may be. Thanks in advance.

I think the 12.7V Vpp should not be a problem. You can try 12V WVPP. I do not know exactly what is wrong here. But I am pretty sure the programmer is able to program this chip. It is just some setting or software change needed. If possible, send me one or two chips for testing, I will send them back to you after testing. Contact support@mcumall.com if it is OK.

I tried added a device after reseaching the devices.txt information and I added a device that I called HN27C4096 12.5 PGM with the addition of the following: WVPP="12.5V"

When I restarted the programmer software I got the error message:

Parse Error
The VPP 12.5V is not available
Parse "Devices.txt" error on device HN27C4096 12.5PGM.

I commented out that line and restarted the software.

When I look at the chip information that comes up with the "i" button, it shows that the HN27C4096 shows to use 12.7 Vpp, and I think this may be where the problem comes from! It will not let me use 12.5 for Vpp. What are the possible selections for Vpp??? Is there a way to reduce the Vpp to the 12.5V that these chips apparently need??? HELP........... Maybe there is a temporary hardware fix (or permanent software fix) for when I need to program this chip??? I have dozens of these chips, and they cannot be returned. (I had checked the device listing and the HN27C4096 from Hitachi was listed!)

I have tried what I could for now, and I am at a stand-still! Help please, and thanks in advance!!!

I looked in the software main screen and found a setting for speed that I never played with before.......

I tried every speed, and I got the same error, it just took longer to come up on the slow speeds. Here is what it shows when set at Speed -2:

Device is blank.
Time:15:26:28
Writing
Elapsed time: 15.32 seconds.
Time:15:26:43
Device write failed at address: 0x000000, Buffer=0x00 Device=0xFF
Device write error.
Code Blank checking
Elapsed time: 4.17 seconds.
Device is blank.

One thing that I noticed looking at the Hitachi parts just now is that they are labelled: PGM 12.5V.

Does this give a clue at all? The AMD parts are not labelled, so I have no reference. What voltage is the Vpp by default? Is there a way to change it to 12.5V if it is not there already?? I really need to get this working ASAP, and I appreciate any help that I can get!

Thanks Again!

ZLM,

I tried again with the device HN27C4096AG-10. Here are the results from the programmer message board:

Code Blank checking
Elapsed time: 3.26 seconds.
Device is blank.
Time:15:3:2
Writing
Elapsed time: 0.32 seconds.
Time:15:3:3
Device write failed at address: 0x000000, Buffer=0x00 Device=0xFF
Device write error.
Code Blank checking
Elapsed time: 3.26 seconds.
Device is blank.

The device still is blank. I do not have the AM27C4096 readily/easily available since it is programmed and operating in a machine currently, but I just programmed one a week ago. One thing that I think may be different is that the Hitachi parts are 100ns, and the AMD parts were 120ns if I remember correctly, so the Hitachi parts are faster.

What specific things should I try?
Have you programmed a HN27C4096 on your setup before?
You suggested that I try to slowdown the speed, how would I do that specifically?
Thanks for all of your help!!!
ZLM Posted - 05/09/2008 : 23:40:04
Do blank check after write fail. This checks if there are any address line problem.
Do you still have AM27C4096 for testing?
Try slowdown the speed.
