Well I am trying to write to AT27C256. I thought it was simple. Locate device, set jumpers, load .BIN, and write! Not for me. I'm so fustrated. I bought U.V. light to erase eprom but, I keep on getting errors. Buy U.V. light they said would help, jump this, use a power supply, and crap! I tried on 2 desktops and 2 laptops, and still came up with nada. I also set my bios to epp&norm., I followed all instructions, I can erase the eproms, verify, and blank check, checks out but, as soon as I load my .BIN, "verify" throws error, and I cain't program. With different chips, throws different errors, With AT29C256, it throws "write sector 0." AT27C256 throws 0x0000 buffer 0x20 error. I tried Windows 98/XP. This Enhanced/Dual Power only seems good for target practice, at this point!!! I also tried 1K resister parellel with R1, and replaced it 500 ohm resistor, and R2 with 4.7K resistor. Nada again!!!(Pulling out my hair) Every night I been on my computer. No lie, like 8 hours a day, for the last 8 days. My wife is about to leave me. I don't know what else to do. I tried to save money, after what I spent so far, I could of bought a pocket programmer. I'm "not" the only one with problems, with this product. I traveled the "web globe," 10x, already! and seems like every 8 out of 10 people cain't deal with this product. If you are an average Joe I do not recommend this product for you. I am advanced in electronics, reading schematics, used every setting on my multimeter on this gadget. Still got me boggled. I never give up, I always have to R&D , till I accomplished my goal. Dang it!! I think I'm loosing this one, I bet to a faulty product thats why. I checked my voltage for my VPP and parallel port (checks out.) In no disrespect to this product, I think they should of got all the bugs out and at least gave a shematic, to this raw form of a product. (at least) People are ignorant and expext a plug and play product, should no way, no how have to cut wires to make a jumper, add resistors, and even worry about the product grounding out on sufaces (2 foam blocks)??? Hum? That will help. How can they instruct' to do these things, and then, people like me, who have problems, want to return the product, or at least want a functioning issue, what are we going to hear?, "well cain't honor this, you tampered with it," Well I just feel, sell a product that has, at least, a safety cover, and R&D the thing. No disrespect! Honestly, I would of never bought the product, if I wasn't led wrongfully. Understand were I am coming from, if you bought a product from me and I basically said, "buy this and that didn't work," then said,"try that" all at your cost, from your wallet, how would you feel? Let alone got to hear it from the wifey!!! Theres things behind close doors you don't see. Taking the time out of my day to send it back(if you would let me exchange it) Plus paying to ship it to you guys. HUH! WOW! In the long run, I might as well chaulk it up as a lost or sell it to some other IGNORANT,INOCCENT person. Thanks and don't take it the wrong way, if you do, I quess the truth hurts. I just feel I gotta tell you ,instead of someone else, like a lawyer or something like that.HUM? Not good, right. oh ya, besides that, you guess really stand by your product and in the up most respectful. Just spend a lil more time making a better product for the average joe smoe. Tired peace.

Sorry about your trouble - I just bought the enhanced willem version... I'm in no way impressed with the quality of these boards. A true PITA to diagnose, my chips were scraped. I even found a few pins were unsoldered, there was still solder flux all over the board from HAND SOLDERING, and my board looked like it had been exposed to moisture(corroded PLCC pins). Hell for a couple more bucks I should have just bought the true Willem, straight from the source...

I'll never buy from this place again, sorry. Rediculous return policies... it's no surpise they're warranty is only good for 7-14 days... because it takes 8-15 days to realize what a POS you just bought...

If you're in North America, I'll take your programmer as a trade-in towards the purchase of an assembled Willem 4.1 programmer. Willem's warranty is 6 months, but they're usually problem free. I've been using a Willem 4.0 (predecessor of the 4.1) for about 18 months...

BTW, Willem's programmers are currently hand soldered. I remove flux when I assemble one...

HTH,
Dennis

I just bought the Enhanced Willem and I think it is a complete piece of junk. I see that you might take a trade-in in North America? Well I am interested. Please email me at greg.cooper@cas-inc.com.

Yes, especially if you have a programmer I don't already have. Go to willem.org and PM your email address to DL.

I have used two Willem Dual Power programmers, and the only issue I had was setting the LPT port settings in the BIOS correctly, once that was done, I had no issues. I don't recall the proper settings off hand, but I can check my desktop if you think it will help.

The reason I've used two, is I borrowed one initially, since I didn't have a way to purchase one off the net, then bought one from a member of a forum I freqently visited, when they decided they had no need for it, both were originally purchased from mcumall.com.

I have recently bought a Willem True USB (GQ-3X) (from mcumall.com) after my laptop died and the new one didn't have an LPT port, only USB. It works flawlessly, and is much easier to use than the Dual Power version.
I have kept my Dual Power as a back-up, and for testing in use on my desktop.

I also don't really care for the lack of enclosure, and had planned on building an enclosure for my dual power, with switches connected to the juper pins for easy changing of the jumper settings. I'm not sure that I will build an enclosure or not for it, or my GQ-3X, since it fits very well in my laptop bag in one of the pockets without an enclosure.

I just noticed that Willem seems to have addressed the lack of enclosure with the GQ-4X, but I don't know anything about that product, but will certainly look into it more now that I know it's there. :)

To the OP:
I don't understand why you are upset that MCUmall will not take back a product that you have modified or tampered with. The same rings true for just about ANY product ever sold, electronics, appliances, heck even furnature manufactures will say the same thing. Once something is modified warrentee is void.
I void warrentee of the car audio and security/convience system installs, if the instal was tampered with after it left my shop (yes I can tell), because it's no longer in a state that I can say that it shouldn't have failed, and there is a good chance that a failure was likely from the tampering, people are hacks when it comes to car audio and especially security/convience systems, when they try to "upgrade" or "diagnose a problem", that usually turns out to be user error.
If a failed product was thought of from the beginning then it should have been returned immediatly.

I've heard of people experiancing write problems with the AT27C256 and AT29C256 chips, and you may be experiancing the same.
I use SST27SF512 EEPROMs for my automotive applications, which can be used in place of the 27Cxxx, 29Cxxx, and even 27xx chips. The only thing that needs to be done is make sure the offset is correct, and in the case of certain ECMs an adaptor to set the proper address look up when using the 28 pin E/EPROM in place of a 24 pin EPROM.

there seems to be a problem with willem .ja versions d and e software
not tried other's
for me every eporm works except 27C1000 and class varients like 27c100
1001 , 010 etc are aok
always the same problem address $1000 in blank check fails every time
using a top2049 properly set it i also get a fail
however i know the ic is aok as ive used my stag to program them meantime and they are ok as expected

i use a dual power willem properly set jumpers
and i know there is little issue
looking at the vpp i get 12.7v and vcc=6.25 for write
vcc=5v or 6.250 still fails a blank check so its not the cell margins

if there is software sources this would be handy
or if there is a method to contact the author perhaps someone knows
or can advise
