Remove the 10uf cap should not affect the reading. There are something wrong with the adapter I think.
Can you try to put the 10uf cap see if it works again? I doubt.

unplugged GQ-4X programmer. removed adaptor adp-055. turned programmer back on. installed adp-055 onto the GQ-4X. placed original eprom in zif socket on adaptor. checksum: 0000000

now what ?

Software Version Re4.02 ??? Have no idea what you are talking about. Could you simplify that ? Remove the 10 uf cap ? Is there a design flaw in this adaptor ? I just purchased this adaptor last week. and purchased the GQ-4X 2 months ago. I'll do as you suggest...and remove the cap.
ZLM Posted - 07/13/2009 : 21:19:53
The software version should be Re4.02

Can you remove the 10uf capacitor on the adapter and try again?

I purchased 6 of the ST M27C4002 (new) from Mouser. Chips are new. Blank checked: OK. So far, tried 4 new M27C4002 eproms...they are all Write / Failed. I'll put them in an eraser...but won't hold my breath.

can you erase the chip and try again? make sure the pin contacts are good.
