I am trying to burn, read, write, etc to an atmel29c256 chip, and I keep getting Hardware Error: check power & connection.

I have tried both Willem and PCB mode, the jumper and dip is set according to pictures, My Parallel port is set to correct mode as well, not sure what else to try here, ive been reading threads with same problem, but to no avail. could it be my computer has a bad parallel port, are their drivers i need? something to activate? Please Help

If the chip is demaged or placed in wrong direction in ZIF, then it will cause the programmer not function properly.

thank you the help.

Turns out it was the chip. switched from atmel to SST and now it says hardware is fine, is this possible that the chip can make the unit not function properly?

also tried using an a/c power adapter did not work. In Windows, what does the parallel port interrupt have to be set to, no interrupt, or what? does it even matter.

Your driver not installed. For the 0.97ja software you do not need install the driver. For other earlier version you need install the driver. See download page.

Also, when I first installed and ran the program it gave me an IO.SYS error, not sure what that is?

im using versions of 0.97G and 0.97JA and neither work, also I have tried playing around with port settings in device manager and sometimes it would activate the vcc or vpp lights, which means the cord is probably working fine?
